I agree with @jagowriter (if I'm reading correctly) what's coming is a time for deep introspection and reform in Asia, but that perhaps for the first time in a long time, there's no need to look West for answers or even for the general narrative.
No coincidence that the parts of Burma beyond colonial "economic activity" same parts barely administered (so w/ entirely different colonial experiences) and which after independence have been the site of violent state-building efforts (as well as repeated foreign intervention)
