A simple Senate majority should revise the Byrd rule from 1985. This is not some hallowed constitutional principle. It was intended to limit reconciliation to deficit reduction by prohibiting extraneous measures. Bad economics. Allow reconciliation for wage raises & job creation.
Why does it take 50 Senate votes to cut taxes for the rich but 60 votes to raise the minimum wage?
I've seen people talking about zip tie guy's arsenal. I'm not sure folks realize that his cache can be on the low end of normal for many people embedded in gun culture, including those who are just hunters or collectors and don't see themselves as militia members whatsoever.
My sense is one of the biggest culture gaps in America exists between how many guns gun-owners *actually* own and how many non-gun-owners *think* gun-owners own. In reality @AmyCooter is right this is a pretty typical arsenal for a “serious” gun-owner:
Josh Hawley signed a middle school yearbook: “Josh Hawley, president 2024.” Really good profile of the Missouri senator from @KCStar
Replying to @Susan_Hennessey: This reminds me of hearing a former CIA official say he viewed it as a red flag when someone said in an interview that…
This reminds me of hearing a former CIA official say he viewed it as a red flag when someone said in an interview that they'd "always wanted to work for the CIA" because it was a sign the candidate didn't understand the job and was probably interested for the wrong reasons.
Quite a ruckus when the President has a hankering for a delicious bagel sandwich. @JoeBiden stops by my corner bagel shop Call Your Mother for a Sunday nosh.
Joe Biden has now eaten at more DC restaurants and visited more small businesses in his first hundred hours as president than Trump did in four entire years. And by that I mean: Biden has visited a single one.

Bay Fang reinstated over RFA
Top RFE editor Daisy Sindelar elevated once more as acting prez
MEBN treasurer Kelley Sullivan made acting prez
This is wonderful news. So happy @bayfang is coming back to serve our country and enable the spread and reporting of factual information in a critical part of the world.
Ties between politicians & violent extremist groups are hard to break
A sad statement about the incentive structure of conservative politics / the politics of the modern Republican Party, which is both a numerical minority party and in essence America's "white interests party," meaning they can't afford to shed even openly white supremacist voters.
Remember @geoffreyfowler’s article about how Tesla’s have 360 cameras. Well now police will.
Also, who controls the data?
We remain stunningly unprepared—politically, morally, and technically—for the explosion of data and how it will be used in the next decade.
@DRobertsIMG @POTUS Relatedly, shutting Trump off from social media has silenced him to a greater extent than I expected. I figured he'd still find some outlet to make a lot of noise but apparently he's too lazy to communicate with his followers if it requires more effort than a tweet.
American journalism has really undermined itself by using language that implies that journalistic objectivity is the same as neutrality, and non-thinking reporting of empirical facts in some kind of arbitrary format.
Read this whole thread, as @espiers lays down some smart real-talk about how modern journalism’s ongoing inability to understand how the internet works:
This is the most important thing I've ever written.
My friend and family Lauren @Wolfe321 was just fired by the @NYTimes after the NYT was pressured by fascists, Trumpkins and hypocrites on the right for tweeting she had "chills" after witnessing Biden's landing on the 20th.
This whole episode with @Wolfe321 is a troubling (and sad) sign that the NYT still hasn’t figured out how to handle bad faith, faked right-wing performative outrage. It did the wrong thing and should fix it—fast.

My story on how the left built a huge, below-the-radar coalition that coordinated a strategy to fight Trump’s attacks on the election
It began early last year w/a warning: “We are 8 months away from crisis ...”
